How to Prepare for Wall Hanging

Hanging items on the wall is a lot harder than it seems. You need to be meticulous & precise making sure everything is leveled, you need to use the right type of tools and screws to hold your specific item, and be ready to clean up the aftermath. Take a look at our guide and follow along on how to prepare for a professional wall hanging experience.

What You Will Need

Every wall hanging item such as, mirrors, pictures, shelves, clocks etc, has its own set of factors that come with it. Things to take into consideration, weight, quantity, and size. Read our in depth guide on how to hang heavy objects on the wall.

You'll need:

  • Drill / driver and bits
  • Hammer
  • Tape measure
  • Appropriate sized level
  • Stud finer
  • Screw driver
  • Laser level (optional)
  • Step stool / ladder

For heavier items you might need to add:

  • A threaded drywall anchor (items 10-25 lbs)
  • Hollow wall anchors
  • Picture hangers and wire
  • Concrete anchors

Always remember, safety first! Put on a pair of goggles, sport some gloves, and wear a dust mask. Be sure to locate all electrical wires and plumbing pipes before drilling into drywall.

How Much Does Wall Hanging Cost?

There are a number of factors that affect the cost of the work but in general it is based on the number of hours our technicians need to hang your displays. The work can include anything from hanging family photos, to a large painting, to a bathroom mirror. Framed items are easiest to install and generally require hardware on the item and a hook on the wall. The time required will be determined by how many items you're hanging, the size(s), the wall material, and the location. Anything that requires a stepladder or extension ladder will usually require an additional fee. Expect to pay somewhere between $50 to $200 for photos and small groups of photos.
